YWRC Participant Referral Form
This form may be used to refer girls and young women* ages 10 - 24 to participate in YWRC programs and services. *We define ‘girls and young women’ as any persons who have been socialized and/or identify as female. This includes cisgender girls, cisgender women, transgender persons and non-binary or gender fluid individuals.
The Young Women’s Resource Center holds weekly after school groups for young women in the Des Moines area in 5th through 12th grades. These groups explore a variety of topics such as body image, self-esteem, reproductive health and healthy relationships. They include hands-on activities, field trips, guest speakers and community service projects. (Groups are currently held online and meet in a virtual space. Project-specific activity kits are provided for participants.)
Mental Health Counselors provide one-on-one, couples and/or family counseling to young women in schools and at the Young Women’s Resource Center. Counseling services are offered for all young women within the ages of 10-21.
The weekly Young Mom’s Program provides education and support to parenting young women in the community. Peer-to-peer support, education and a full meal and childcare are provided for the evening Young Mom’s groups at the Young Women’s Resource Center.
