The Girls Inc. of Central Iowa at YWRC programs for high school girls offer comprehensive support and assistance designed to be a place where women can be happy, be safe and be inspired. These programs focus on making positive choices, giving girls the tools to discover the strength, beauty and creativity they have inside. Every girl is unique and high school programming is flexible enough to provide individual support to all of them.
The Young Women’s Resource Center holds weekly after school groups for young women in the Des Moines area in 5th through 12th grades. These groups explore a variety of topics such as body image, self-esteem, reproductive health and healthy relationships. They include hands-on activities, field trips, guest speakers and community service projects. (Groups are currently held online and meet in a virtual space. Project-specific activity kits are provided for participants.)
Mental Health Counselors provide one-on-one, couples and/or family counseling to young women in schools and at the Young Women’s Resource Center. Counseling services are offered for all young women within the ages of 10-24.
During summer programs, girls can come spend time with others in a supportive environment, have fun and learn more about what it means to be a healthy young woman.
